style="text-align: justify">Every spring, paint masters Pantone release a swatch of shades which will lead every industry in terms of the styles they put out on the market. The catwalks, high street fashions, home furnishings – even the world of bathrooms can’t escape it.

Here at Tommy Welsh Installations we always like to keep on top of the latest trends, particularly with paint colours, so that you’ve always got the choice of fitting the most up-to-date, modern bathroom in Scotland. From spring 2013 the three main colours are Monaco Blue, Poppy Red and Lemon Zest. These are all specific hues of the three primary colours and all of them are perfect choices if you are looking to install a modern bathroom in your home.

Monaco Blue

Blue and bathrooms are the best of friends. It’s clean, its calming and in the case of this shade it’s actually quite warm. Forget the chilly tones you might normally associate with blue, this one is rich and luxurious. Pair it with dark wood grains or even high gloss cream bathroom furniture for that true nautical theme. Your bathroom will be on the cutting edge of fashion and this match is such a classic that it’l look great for a long time to come.

Absolutely perfect if you want to spice up your bathroom. Use it in tile detailing or even paint it straight onto the walls. It’s fantastic with slate or charcoal tones, as well as crisp white bathroom suites. It’ll work wonderfully well with the iconic black and white checkered floor too. It’s unique and perfect if you’re looking to splash some real personality around in your bathroom.

Lemon Zest

Not always a colour that comes first to mind, however this fresh yellow shade will almost certainly cheer you up when you step into your bathroom on a morning. It’s bright, it’s happy and works brilliantly when paired up with eggshell tones or even lighter natural woods like pine or oak. Check out the Linear oak bathroom for the perfect partner to that nice, sharp lemon colour.

<p

Thankfully, we’ve put together a handful of tips and tricks you can use to make sure you stay as toasty as possible when you’re washing up. We’ve even got a few winning warming ideas which won’t cost a fortune.

Underfloor Heating

If you install underfloor heating in your home now, you’ll be glad you did on the chilly days ahead. There are several variations and you can make them as cost effective as possible – you can even lay it just on the parts of the floor you walk on, making it a great little saver. Fancy stepping out of your shower onto a freezing cold floor? We thought not.

Warm Colours

There’s a lot to be said for making your bathroom just ‘look’ warm. Colours can play a huge part in this, so if you’re getting a slight shiver in the morning, stay away from light blues or greys. Instead stick with earth colours; browns, greens, clay reds – why not use bronze or copper fittings on your units to give your space that extra spice. It might be psychological, but it really can make a big difference and better still, it won’t cost you a penny in running costs. Give it a go.

Soft Furnishings

Rugs, pedestal mats, even the right type of fluffy towel; they all help in adding to that tangible feeling of warmth in the room. It’s much nicer stepping onto a small rug in the morning than icy tiles, trust me. You could even experiment with candles. They add a nice kind of atmosphere to your bathroom and can help you relax if you’re having a soak. You may not notice a huge amount of heat radiating from them, but you will get a little warmth. Again, it’s all about creating the right feeling in your bathroom.

Designer Radiators & Towel Rails

These are fantastic as they satisfy both form and function in one tidy package. There are plenty of aesthetically pleasing models on the market and you’ll get the dual use of heating your room and heating your towels at the same time. The feeling of stepping out of the shower and into a toasty towel is second to none. Also, like the underfloor heating you can set them to come on at select times, saving you the cost of running them all day.

So if you’re getting a little chilly this winter or you’re looking to frost-proof your new bathroom, give our warming tips a try. And, if you’ve got any questions or ideas you’d like to discuss and share, give us a call. We’d love to hear from you if you’ve got any unique ways of keeping your bathroom warm. Give us a call on 0141 771 2242 to talk about what we can do for you.

Make The Most Of Your En Suite

Bathroom Makeovers

Top Tips For Your New Bathroom
<guid

This space in en suites tends not to be that generous, but that’s beside the point. There are plenty of things you can do to make sure you’re not cluttering up the place.

First, try to maintain as much free floor and worktop space as possible. If you’ve got lots of knick-knacks, cosmetics and beauty appliances and so on, make sure you’ve got some drawer units or cupboards to hide all the clutter. Many of these units are designed to be slim in depth, so you get to tuck away all the things you’d like to hide without taking up too much room.

Next should be the wall fixtures. Did you know that you can get recessed toilet roll holders, for example? That means your toilet roll will be fitted into a recessed unit, instead of poking out into room space. It may only be something small, but you’ll be amazed what difference these little touches make. A recessed toilet roll holder will also give your en suite that extra bit of hotel style, too.

As an en suite is usually fairly compact, they won’t require a huge amount of heating. If you do want something to get your towels toasty in the morning, though, try a wall mounted heated towel rail. You can get them in a huge variety of styles and they’ll hardly take up any room. How handy!

You’ve no doubt seen mirror units, too. Why not think about fitting them into the wall? That means you’ll get a large mirror and a storage unit that takes up no space at all in your room. If you can, make the mirror as large as possible. It might just be a trick of the light, but it’s amazing how much bigger the room will feel with a big mirror.

Also, while white is a go to colour for bathrooms, there’s a good reason for that. Lighter tones give an expansive feel to the space. If you do want to use colour in a little bathroom, be sparing with it. You can get a good splash of personality without letting it take over.

So if you’re considering re-doing your en suite, give us a call on 0141 771 2242. However, have you ever thought about how well your bathroom design suits your young children?

Is your bathroom designed in a child friendly way or do you have sinks that are too high to reach and deep soaking tubs which are dangerous for toddlers to climb in and out of? A child-friendly bathroom will be a lot easier and safer for little ones to use. Without having to install all child-sized bathroom fixtures, there are many simple ways that you can adapt your bathroom so that it will be more suitable for little ones.

Here are some tips for creating a bathroom which will be child friendly:

You can use a standard height sink and vanity because your kids will eventually grow into it, but leave enough room in front so that your toddlers can use a bathroom stool or a couple of steps to wash their hands. Create a space where the stool can be tucked away when it is not in use so that it doesn’t clutter the bathroom.

There are special bath tubs which are designed for babies and toddlers which fit into your standard tub and have gripped surfaces which avoid slippage.

Choose a countertop which will be very hard wearing and will not be stained or scratched. Quartz is a child-friendly bathroom solution which is resistant to stains and scratches and looks just as luxurious as granite.

Don’t install a child sized toilet, as your kids will grow out of it and other adult guests will use the bathroom. However, don’t use the taller comfort height toilets either as they are far too tall. Your best option is to choose a standard size toilet and have your kids use a step stool to reach it.

Make sure that you have storage cabinets which are up out of reach for glass bottles, razors, scissors, hair clips and other potentially dangerous items that curious toddlers might find.

Install anti-scald devices on your faucets and showerheads which will limit the amount of hot water which can flow. This will save your small children from burning themselves when they are washing their hands.

If your kids have a lot of bath toys, you can keep them all organized in baskets and drawers which are easily accessible at bath time. This could be in a drawer, a wire basket or in a plastic storage tub.

These are just a few tips that you can keep in mind when you are creating a child-friendly bathroom. Of course, the most important thing to remember when you are designing a child-friendly bathroom is to have fun and be creative! Colourful towels, bright wallpaper and soap dispensers in other fun shapes can make a stylish and beautiful bathroom which children will love to use.

For more bathroom ideas, give Tommy Welsh Installations a call on 0141 771 2242.

How To Make The Most Of A Small Bathroom

Bathroom Makeovers

When you have a small bathroom it can sometimes be a challenge to fit everything in. However, when it comes to performing a bathroom renovation on a small bathroom, there are a number of clever little tricks which can be employed which can make the space feel larger and be more usable.

You don’t have to add any more square footage, just use these simple design techniques to make your small bathroom look and feel a lot larger than it really is.

Choose the Right Colours

When you are designing a small bathroom, look for pale, bright, soft colour schemes which will reflect light and give the impression of more space. Dark colours in a small bathroom can make it feel even more like a closet. The walls should be white or a neutral tone and brighter and more vibrant colours can be used for towels, accessories and design accents. As well, the floor should also be done in a light colour as this will also make the room look larger.

Of course, just because your bathroom is designed in neutral colours this doesn’t mean that it has to be dull and boring. You can use an interesting blend of colours and add some vibrant details to really show off your sense of style.

Lighten Things Up

Having the right lighting can really make a big difference in your small bathroom. Make sure that all corners of the room are lit up and perhaps consider adding lights around the mirror as well. The brighter the bathroom is, the bigger it will look and feel.

Up on a Pedestal

One of the best solutions for a bathroom renovation on a small bathroom is to install a pedestal sink rather than a large vanity cabinet. The pedestal sink takes up far less space and will make the bathroom feel much bigger. You can install a small shelf underneath as storage space, or add storage somewhere else.

Reflect on Things

Another great idea for your small bathroom renovation is to install a large mirror above your bathroom sink. Rather than choosing a small mirror for your small bathroom, choose the largest mirror you can possibly fit into the space, as it will reflect the room and give the impression that it is bigger. It will also help the bathroom to be lighter as it will reflect light throughout the space.

Get Rid of the Junk

If your bathroom is cluttered with stuff that you don’t use, the already small space will feel even smaller. Go through all of your bathroom items and get rid of anything that you don’t use. Make it a priority to use up all those bath products which only have a few drops left in them and get rid of any unnecessary knick knacks and decorations.

These are just a few tips to keep in mind for your bathroom renovation, if you want to make the most of your space then we are bathroom company for you installing quality bathrooms in Glasgow, Edinburgh and throughout Scotland.

For more handy hints or ideas for your new bathroom, give Tommy Welsh Installations a call on 0141 771 2242.

Dark Walnut Bathrooms

Bathroom Makeovers
<guid

Walnut bathrooms are top of the charts when it comes to designer spaces at the moment. Whether you’re just looking to replace the panels around your bath, want walnut units, or you want it for your worktops and flooring, it’s really versatile. While using too much may be overkill, using walnut as a feature is a beautiful way to bring your new bathroom bang up to date.

It’s fantastic when paired with all kinds of colours, as well. Not only does that make it even more adaptable when designing your space, but it also means you’ll be able to keep it as a core part of your bathroom, even if you decide to change the colour scheme a few years down the line. Since walnut is such a versatile finish, it’ll happily match up with neutral tones like cream and eggshell, though it’s equally suitable for earthy colours, too. So, keep greens and greys in mind as well.

Don’t worry about using colours that might be considered ‘cold’. A grey and blue paint scheme will fit really nicely. The benefit of using a natural wood finish is that you automatically add warmth to your space. As we’ve mentioned before, just the look of warmth is often enough to make you feel a whole lot more comfortable (and toasty!) in your bathroom. And, remember, here at Tommy Welsh Installations, if you think that dark walnut will be too deep a colour for your bathroom, then we also offer a range of light walnut and natural walnut units, ensuring you can get the exact tone you require.

<img

Pair it with white and navy blue for a classic nautical theme that works so well in bathrooms.

Choose walnut, and you’ll be getting a wonderful feeling of quality and value. So, if you’re going for that expensive look (but don’t want to run up some hefty costs), it’s ideal. We can help you design it into your space in the most cost-effective way, should you be working to a very specific budget.

Why not click <a

Somewhere they can be truly comfortable. And somewhere truly traditional and warming is great at this chilly time of year!

If this is you, don’t worry you’re not alone. It’s still very popular and, funnily enough, a lot of bathroom furniture that was the height of fashion 30 years ago is actually coming back around and adding kitsch value to the houses they’re in. There’s a lot to be said for finding reclaimed bathroom suites and doing them up.

The risk, of course, is that you get something that’s not made for modern use. But fret not. There are plenty of new bathroom suites that give you the look and feel of the older ones, but with the peace of mind that they’ll last you much longer. Check out our Edgeware bathroom suite. The clean angles give this a very regal feel, suiting classic bathrooms perfectly.

Edgeware Bathroom Suite

We’ve got a great selection of wooden bathroom furniture, which is spot on for that traditional look. It’s warm, it’s tactile and it’s got that olde-worlde feel to it. Take a look at our Oak and Walnut bathroom units – they come in a range of shades, too. Whether you’re going for something light and airy or dark and rich, we’ve got it covered.

For that genuine traditional feel, trying staying away from harsher finishes like metals and mirrored look accessories. If you do want metallic touches, stick with brass, bronze or copper – the really earthy looks. They’ll match the wood far better and they tend to be cheaper.

Wooden Bathroom Furniture

Try working with floral patterns as well, both big and small. It might be a little chintzy, but it’s something that older bathrooms are rarely without. Everything from feature tiles, curtains and blinds, or even actually flowers in the room. It’s a small detail, but if you’re after something authentic, it can make all the difference.

Of course, just because you’re going for an older look, doesn’t mean you’ve got to shun all technology. There are plenty of feature radiators that look the part and still give you heat. And, there’s nothing to stop you investing in underfloor heating, too. We’ve got a whole blog on underfloor heating options, so why not have a read and see if there’s something you want.
<div

The next step is on what kind of worktop you’re going to pair it with. This combination is a big factor in how your bathroom turns out, so it’s important to be completely happy with the pairing you make.

Choosing the Right Colour

Colour is a huge thing to consider, though there are generally two ways you can go with it – light or dark. And you can go for proper hardwood surfaces or laminate, while there’s also granite or quartz slabs cut to size to think about, too.

You’ve then got the difficult choice of whether to match your worktop to the other colours, or to provide a stark contrast and make a bold statement in your space. Keeping a core colour running throughout is more akin to traditional bathrooms, while a flash of colour lends itself well to contemporary spaces. You could even experiment with something completely out of the norm and investigate the different colours you can get with a Silestone worktop. The sky really is the limit as far as colour is concerned.

Stick to a Budget

Cost can be a big factor, too, though there are price points for every budget. Laminate is excellent for those who are looking for a variety of finishes to choose from at a reasonable cost. There are all kinds of grains, colours and finishes to pick between. You can take a good look at our range of bathroom worktops here. They do a fantastic job at providing the finish you want without breaking the bank.

For something with a little more of an ‘oomph’ factor, granite and quartz are often the first choices of those designing their dream bathroom. They’re tough, very hard wearing and each piece that’s cut has a completely unique pattern to it. They might take a little longer to get hold of, as cutting them requires a lot more work and a fair amount of precision; though it’s well worth it when they finally slot into place in your new bathroom.

Measured to Fit

If you are opting for granite or quartz, make sure you’ve got the best fitters around. Your measurements need to be absolutely perfect, so that your new worktops fit where they touch. A millimetre is all it takes to get it wrong, so picking the best people for the job is key. At Tommy Welsh we deal with only the top tradesmen in the business – you can rely on us to give you a first class service from start to finish.

Then you’ve got the man-made worktop finishes such as Corian and HiMac. These offer a higher standard of durability for your bathroom, so if you want something that’s going to last you a long time, these could well be the way to go. Just make sure you’ve picked out a bathroom that you’re going to be happy with for that long, too!

If you need some inspiration or you’d like to discuss your ideas about what worktops you’re putting in your bathroom, give Tommy Welsh a call on 0141 771 2242. title="Tommy Welsh Excellent Reputation" href="http://www.tommywelshbathrooms.co.uk/customer-reviews/">Tommy Welsh Bathrooms have an excellent reputation – both online and via word of mouth. They also had numerous examples of bathrooms they had already fitted together with a list of happy previous customers who were more than willing to provide a recommendation, as well as a personal viewing of their own bathroom.

In the end there wasn’t really any competition and the Dirkies were happy to accept Tommy’s teams’ advice on how to enhance the space and bring light to their small bathroom installation in Glasgow.

Bathroom suite

The bright Kanuka suite was the model of choice here with its smart modern bathroom design and bath which was rounded at one corner allowing the couple to have a shower as well as a bath. Because it was only rounded at the one end, it left plenty of space in the remainder of the bathroom. The shower meanwhile was an updated version with two heads, allowing a variety in pressure.

Where the toilet was concerned the back was installed straight into the wall to ensure a neater look and that none of the plumbing was visible.

Bathroom walls

Again, to make the bathroom look as large as possible, larger white ceramic tiles were chosen. Smaller tiles would have reduced the sense of space in the bathroom. To add contrast and a bit of colour, a feature glass mosaic border was fitted three-quarters of the way up the wall.

Bathroom ceiling

Keeping the décor as light and bright as possible, the bathroom ceiling was kept white and modern recessed lights fitted.

The thing about finding a company which can design, supply and install a kitchen to your exact specifications – and delight – is that when it comes to having the same set-up with your bathroom, you know exactly who to choose.

The Downies had no hesitation in contacting Tommy Welsh Installations to get the team back out to help them put in a lovely bathroom in their Airdrie home. After all they had already seen the impressive results of their Airdrie kitchen.

They were also encouraged by the way Tommy and the team completed the job with minimal mess, fuss and disruption to their own lives – despite the enormity of the task. And they knew their new bathroom in Airdrie would receive the same outstanding attention to detail that their kitchen already displayed.

Bathroom suite

For their Airdrie home the Downies selected a white Jasmine bathroom suite and, like all Tommy Welsh Installations, it was plumbed directly into the wall to ensure no ugly pipes were visible. A large thermostatic walk-in shower in silver was chosen and fitted, rather than a bath, which left an expanse of room in the remainder of the bathroom – a good move considering the bathroom wasn’t particularly large to begin with.

Bathroom walls

Large textured tiles in white were chosen to completely cover the walls. In addition an eye-catching, coloured mosic was fitted at a height three quarters up the wall to add colour and contrast to the lighter shade.

Bathroom flooring

To add further contrast to the uniform white walls, Tommy and the team laid beautiful black slate ceramic tiles on the floor. This also had a safety angle in that it meant there wouldn’t be any danger of either Mr or Mrs Downie slipping when they emerged from the shower onto a possibly wet bathroom floor.

Bathroom lighting and ceiling

An already existing window in the bathroom provided adequate daylight. All that was necessary then in terms of lighting was a set of modern recessed down lights to highlight particular areas of the room and provide added brightness at night. The ceiling was completed in white pvc to keep in with the colour scheme of the remainder of the bathroom and to add brightness. It’s also very easy to keep clean so very little future maintenance would be required from the couple.

<img

It’s also beside the window to allow the couple to view themselves in daylight rather than them having to rely on artificial lighting.

Other bathroom chores

As far as the Downies were concerned there weren’t any. This is because Tommy and the team removed the old suite and cleaned up afterwards. As a result the Downies have no hesitation in recommending Tommy Welsh Installations for anyone who needs a new bathroom installation in Airdrie – or anywhere else in west or central Scotland for that matter.

To <a
